Premier League title winner , Danny Drinkwater retires from football at just 33 after admitting he’d been ‘in limbo too long’

At the age of 33, Danny Drinkwater, a former Premier League title winner with Leicester City and midfielder for Chelsea and England, has announced his retirement from professional football. The decision comes after Drinkwater confessed to feeling “in limbo too long” following his release from Chelsea in July last year.

In an interview with the High-Performance Podcast, Drinkwater expressed his feelings about retiring. He stated, “I’d just like to announce my retirement from professional football. It’s probably been a long time coming, especially with the last year, but I think it’s time to officially announce it now.”

Reflecting on his career, Drinkwater admitted, “It’s all I’ve known, it’s been my life since I was six or seven, it was never going to be an easy thing.” He also mentioned that he had received offers from Championship clubs but never felt motivated to pursue them.

Drinkwater’s career began at Manchester United’s academy, and he later found success at Leicester City, helping them win promotion into the Premier League in 2014. He played a crucial role in Leicester’s unexpected Premier League title success in the 2015-16 season and earned three caps for England.
